Swing Beds & Porch Daybeds

Shop outdoor swing beds and porch daybeds — the luxurious alternative to a standard porch swing. Swing beds are significantly larger than regular porch swings, designed for lying down, napping, and extended outdoor relaxation. Most swing beds are wide enough for a queen-size mattress or large outdoor cushion, and all hang from ceiling joists or a pergola just like a standard swing.

We carry swing beds and porch daybeds from A&L Furniture in Yellow Pine, Cedar, and recycled poly lumber — handcrafted by Amish craftsmen in Pennsylvania.

What is a swing bed?

A swing bed (also called a porch daybed or hanging bed) is an oversized hanging bed designed for outdoor porches, covered patios, and pergolas. Unlike a standard porch swing, which seats 2–3 people upright, a swing bed is wide enough to lie flat — typically 48 to 72 inches wide — and moves with a gentle swaying motion that's exceptionally relaxing.

Swing bed vs. porch swing — which is right for you?

Choose a swing bed if you want to lie down, nap outdoors, or create a luxury outdoor lounging area and have a covered porch or pergola with sufficient ceiling height. Choose a standard porch swing if you want to seat 2–3 people upright for conversation and have a smaller porch or lower ceiling. Read our full porch swing vs. swing bed comparison →

How to hang a swing bed

Swing beds hang from ceiling joists, pergola beams, or a freestanding swing stand using heavy-duty chains or rope. Because of their larger size and potential occupant weight, structural attachment points for swing beds should support at least 500–800 lbs. See our complete guide on how to hang a porch swing →
